My motto: Dinner is just the annoying thing to get through before dessert.
It’s a well know fact that when you dine with me, I’ll be checking the dessert menu first. If there’s something that catches my eye, I’ll be eating an appetizer as my dinner…saving room for a diabetic-inducing delight.
Every year for my birthday, I scoff at dinner and instead insist on a dessert tour. We usually visit a different city and I plan out the tour in advance. This year, we toured my favorite city for this activity: NYC.
No, I cannot only pick one dessert place for you. That would be like choosing my favorite child (if I had some). This year’s birthday tour included:
Frozen Hot Chocolate at Serendipity
I sit in Grace Kelly’s favorite chair at Serendipity sipping my calorie-laden Frozen Hot Chocolate and dream of having a sketch-off with Andy Warhol. But that’s just me. You can be perfectly sane and enjoy the experience as well.
Tiramisu at Vincent’s in Little Italy
This delectable piece of mascropone and espresso soaked lady fingers is better than any tiramisu I’ve had in Italy. I’ve even had tiramisu at Cafe Florian (from the 300+ year old recipe) and it doesn’t hold a candle to Vincent’s Sicilian grandmother’s recipe.
Tres Leches Cake at Rosa Mexicano
There is no better Tres Leches on the planet! It’s dipped in orange meringue!
3 Orders at Victor’s Cafe
Victor’s Cafe is my favorite restaurant in New York and I’ve never had a meal. Only dessert. Flan de Coco. Bombon Cubano (chocolate lava cake with coconut ice cream). Churros con Tres Salsas (seriously, beignets with 3 sauces chocolate, carmel, and condensed milk. SERIOUSLY!)
No matter what type of day your having, a scrumptious dessert can make it better because dessert is the cherry on top of life (or so I try to convince everyone)!
